About Me:
I am a Shaman blessed with the rich heritage of African, Seminole, and Cherokee. My elders were my first teachers. I grew up in a household where my Great-great Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Grandmother, and Mother were all under one roof. And to say things would get interesting around that environment would be a gross understatement. But, looking back, I'll tell you that I wouldn't have traded it for anything in this world–it was a true treasure!

There were five constant male influences as I was growing up–my Grandfather, two biological Uncles; one “adoptive” Uncle, and my cousin Peter Chatman–better known to the world as “Memphis Slim”. It was never lost on me the dynamics of growing up in such a household with these powerful male and female energies. And I chose the path of learning all I could from both sides, and to walk the path of balance.

My tribal/ceremonial name is 'Standing Eagle', I am now 57 years old, and am considered an “Elder”. I've worn many “hats” on this Earthwalk -–Student, Soldier and Combat Photojournalist; Spiritual Warrior, Teacher, Healer, Artist, and Shaman–- and I'll offer my “Straight-Up”, “Reality Therapy” approach to Life and Spirituality to any that ask.

From a Dream/Vision I had on Fri, Oct 7, 2005, I've been tasked with conducting five ceremonies world-wide for peace over the next year, starting with the Winter Solstice on Dec 21, 2005. The others will be on the Equinoxes and Solstices in the upcoming years.

These ceremonies are for all of the people on the planet to participate in–yes even the organized religions if they are finally ready to step outside the boxes they are in, put all of their 'trumped up' differences aside, and work together as a collective human voice!

I would like to meet anyone that is walking a Spiritual path that is not confined by religious dogma. I walk the path of balance where I accept everyones path–because they are ALL VALID–there can never be just one path to get to enlightenment. We are all heading for the same “Goal line”–we're just using different languages, and cultural bases.

“Aho, Mitakuye Oyasin (We Are All Related)–
If the people lead, then the leaders will follow!
We Are One Planet,
We Are One People,
We Are One Mind,
We Are One Spirit!”

And as my Grandmother would say at the beginning of my training sessions, “Let us dance around the tree today with joy in our hearts, shake it and see what fruits it will drop for us this time around!”

Namaste and Brightest Blessings to you all!

You are very welcome! :-) I have never been to New Orleans, but I would love to go sometime! It sounds like you have led quite an adventurous life. You need to write a book...unless you have already. :-) You are a very interesting person!! "We Are All Related" I LOVE THAT!!

Namaste Shannon, and many thanks for inviting me. I've always had a "soft-spot" for the "Big Easy" all my life. My cousin Memphis Slim adored the place. I loved the times when I could go on the road with him when I was a child on the "Chittlin' Circuit" as they called it during the "Jim Crow Era".

I am kicking around the idea of having my organization, "We Are All Related", put on some benefit concerts, carrying the them of my yearly radio program on "Memphis Slim Remembered" and dedicating the proceeds to New Orleans to help out in the rebuilding/reclamation efforts. All we've got to get together is financial backing and promoters who are willing to stick their necks out for a more than worthy cause.

We have to do it 'cause our "Reich stag" government isn't doing their job--except for turning a deaf ear and letting it turn into a wholesale land grabbing effort!

Congress makes New Orleans pay to fix federal levees

As reported by the Associated Press, Congress is requiring Louisiana to pay $1.8 billion to shore up levee protection in metro New Orleans and must pay it in just three years. This Congressional requirement is unfathomable since it was the federal government’s water structures that nearly destroyed New Orleans and nearby St. Bernard parish in [...]

Corps of Engineers rewriting history on flooding and levee breaches

Journalist Georgianne Nienaber recently wrote on the coordinated effort immediately after the Midwest flooding by spokespersons with the US Army Corps of Engineers to deflect responsibility for flooding away from the Corps. Just like in New Orleans after Katrina. I will add to the fray and highlight some falsehoods coming from Eric Halpin, Special Assistant [...]

Two groups join Levees.Org’s call to address flooding

Two more entities have joined our growing list of supporters calling for the 8/29 Investigation Senate Bill 2826 filed by Senator Mary Landrieu D-LA. Last week, I received word that the Sierra Club Delta Chapter “strongly supports Levees.org’s campaign to get Congress to appoint an 8/29 commission. Two days later, I received word that the [...]

Corps of Engineers’ PR in high gear on Midwest Flooding

In many cases, the Midwest flooding was a failure of the US Army Corps of Engineers to properly predict and control flooding. That explains why PR masters from the Corps of Engineers are very busy this week doing apparently coordinated interviews with major news sources. Journalist Georgianne Nienaber covers this topic with some wry [...]

Favorite photos of the Midwest Flooding

AccuWeather has posted their three favorite photos of the Midwest Flooding. The Number One photo is a submerged farm in LaGrange, Missouri, a whopping 314 feet above sea level. So much for the theory that New Orleans was doomed because parts of the city were below sea level. What happened to the [...]

A panel and performance by legendary Creole Wild West Indian tribe. Enjoy this close up. I happened to be at this event and this short video captures the highlights very well.

New Orleans college applications spiking

Talk about unexpected consequences. I doubt anyone looking at new coverage of the 2005 flood would have bet that applications to New Orleans colleges and universities would rise, but that’s exactly what’s happening. Not only are applications up, they’re up dramatically. More here: USA Today article

Postcard from Montreal

North America’s other fleur-de-lis city…I come here whenever I can…It’s five hours up the North Way by car. I think New Orleaneans would feel very at home here…great food, lots of live music, very friendly people…sensual, inclusive, compassionate and all those good things…they know how to live. New Orleans was actually founded by a Montrealer…and the [...]

Postcard from Coney Island

I’m back in New York for the summer in search of New Orleans-like events. The best one so far…the annual Mermaid Parade at Coney Island which just celebrated its 25th anniversary. New Orleans has a lot more parades, but in Coney Island they can take their parade into the sea, which they did. Lots of New [...]

Larry Haines - Housing Innovation for New Orleans and Beyond

Larry came to our benefit workshop last April for St. John’s Church #5 in the 7th Ward and then went with us to visit the various rebuilding projects they’re working on. It was a pleasant surprise to discover that he’s the new president of NOREIA, the New Orleans Real Estate investment Association. In my mind [...]
