If you're not a Voice For Peace, what is your voice for?
I have WTF moments at least a dozen times a day. This one has been brewing for a couple of days. My daughter came into the kitchen Monday night and wanted to show me a YouTube video on her itouch. Shirley Phelps Roper. Here's the thing...after researching this woman and her church (Westboro Baptist Church) I see that they've been on the scene stirring trouble for quite some time now. I've been offline for 6+ months and 99% of the time, I don't watch tv. I could feel my bp rising instantly as soon as I started watching the video. I'm mad as hell, then heartbroken, confused...the usual inner turmoil I begin to cycle around. Of course, I couldn't let it go. I had to visit the website for Westboro Baptist Church www.godhatesfags.com real nice, huh??? These church people picket anywhere and everywhere and list their schedule on the church website. Upcoming places for them: Washington D.C. and New York to follow the Pope around while he is visiting. This Saturday, Jan. 19th, they will be in Jacksonville, NC protesting against the Marines. Yes, they protest at funerals. Go to the church webpage and view the photos of the signs their children carry around. It makes me want to vomit.
My sister spent 4 years in the Marine Corps. My brother-in-law is a Sgt. in the Marines. I have so much respect for our military and what they do. I had the opportunity to visit Camp Lejeune when my sister graduated boot camp. I even have a tatoo of a quatrefoil, a symbol from the Marine Corps (side note, my 2 sisters and I got matching tatoos when my sister graduated from boot camp :-)) One thing that the military does is work to protect our rights to give people like the church members of Westboro Baptist Church the freedom to turn around and paint hateful signs, rejoicing in the fact that our soldiers are dead. My brother-in-law spent almost a year in Iraq. I know people that have lost loved ones due to this "war".
I know that I do not have the self-discipline that it would require to come face to face with these church members.
