About Me:
I moved to New Orleans in January to continue work building a free folk music school. I am interested in grassroots media activism and grassroots education. My dream is to build a network of "Global Citizenship Schools", based on the model of the Citizenship School Movement, which was started by the Highlander Center. I am focusing on building music classroom spaces and computer classroom spaces.

Dear Tim,

my name is András Mikó, I'm writing this message on the behalf of Ferenc and István Ivanics, the brothers who form the WorldWalk-Peacetour Team, who are walking around the Earth in the name of peace, brotherhood and friendship. Now they are in Tallahassee, Fl, and they will arrive New Orleans on 5th July. We'd like to arrange a presentation for them about their concept of peace, and about their experiences of walking in Europe, Africa and the USA. To know more about the project, please, visit their blog (http://worldwalk-peacetour.blogspot.com) and their info site (http://worldwalk-peacetour.info).

There was already a very good presentation in Orlando, Fl (http://worldwalk-peacetour.blogspot.com/2009/06/presentation-in-orlando.html), we planning a similar one, maybe for a bit wider audience. Now we are looking for a good place, to organize it. We don't really know New Orleans, that's why we are looking now for a local contact, a peace activist or an owner of a public place (cafe, library etc.). Please, help us, and please, forward this message to anybody who maybe could help us.

Thank you in advance
Peace
András and the WorldWalk Team

Final day touring The Netherlands with CoDel

Shortly, I will begin my final day touring the Netherlands with Senator Mary Landrieu’s Congressional Delegation. For the past two days, HJ Bosworth Jr and I, along with two members of the Army Corps of Engineers and others, have departed promptly at 7am and returned after 10p. The days have been long, but [...]

See Levees.org on Fox 8 WVUE on Friday May 22

See Levees.org Friday night on Fox 8 TV WVUE on our presentation to the LSU Chancellor of over 4,000 petition signatures urging him to reconsider his decision to dismiss Ivor van Heerden. The story will also cover how over 1,000 Louisiana citizens contacted Governor Bobby Jindal urging him to talk to the Chancellor. Other news: Follow HJ Bosworth [...]

Over 4,000 Petition signatures supporting Ivor van Heerden sent to LSU Chancellor

Last month, in response to public outrage over Louisiana State University’s decision to terminate Dr. Ivor van Heerden, Levees.org posted a petition on its website. This morning, Levees.org sent an excel sheet listing over 4,000 petition signatures to LSU Chancellor Mike Martin in support of Dr. van Heerden. The letter and signatures can be seen on the [...]

Encouraging news from Dr. Ivor van Heerden

Today I received good news from Dr. Ivor van Heerden. He was invited to meet with a member of the Governor’s office who inquired about his issues at Louisiana State University. He also discussed the potential of Dr. van Heerden’s collaborating with the Governor’s Office on Coastal Activities in the future. For those unfamiliar [...]

Senator Mary Landrieu, D-La., will this month lead the second Congressional Delegation to the Netherlands to study the Dutch integrated water management system. Support the VGJ

www.veteransgreenjobs.org

Our Mission

The Veterans Green-Jobs (VGJ) provides training opportunities for military veterans in the emerging green-collar jobs sector. Veterans Green-Jobs Training Program incorporates green-collar college programs, intensive residential training and veterans’ restoration corps. In addition, VGJ seeks to provide a wide range of complimentary resources to assist veterans in post-war civilian reintegration. VGJ will also link trained veterans to green businesses in search of new leaders through a national Green-Jobs Clearinghouse.

The VGJ addresses three primary needs:

• Military veterans' need for meaningful, restorative careers

• Our country's need for a green-collar workforce

• Veterans' and veterans organizations' needs for supporting post-war civilian reintegration

By supporting both veterans and the development of a green economy, the VGJ’s work is restorative to our veterans, our economy and our planet.
